Women who embark on their entrepreneurial after having children are definitely worth every respect and recognition. They often face the challenges of managing a new business venture as well as dividing their time between work and family. In this feature, we will be spotlighting 3 fashion brands founded by successful mumpreneurs who are based in Singapore.
We aren’t the only ones raving their stylish collection of cheongsams, dresses and jumpsuits. Since its launch in 2015, The Missing Piece which is founded by Dr Fock Ee-ling, a mummy of three who also holds a PhD in Medicine, has amassed a fast-growing group of loyalists that include famous names like Andrea Chong, Tjin Lee and Joanna Dong. Dr Fock has always been passionate in fashion design since her college days in Australia even though it was an unplanned decision for her to start this brand after she had her twins. Since then, she was driven to design fashionable yet comfortable clothes especially catered to mummies on-the-go. We particularly heart their cheongsams with a modern twist such as the Cape Cut Out Cheongsam that can take you from work to party. The Missing Piece also carry kids range for boys and girls. Definitely a great option for stylish mums who want their kids to look as chic as them!
Lustre is the brainchild of designer Anaita Thakkar, who is also a mummy of two. Anaita wanted to fill the market gap of offering affordable jewellery that are made of natural gemstones. Lustre specialises in handcrafted, affordable pieces made with semi precious gemstones that are created by artisans & ateliers from around the world.
We like that Lustre creates one-off pieces uniquely designed to capture the beauty of the shape, size, cut and colour of the stones used. Most items are priced below $250 which is a steal for bespoke jewellery. The pieces are versatile enough for a casual day out or events. We love their assortment of stack rings and statement earrings that are sure to spice up any outfit.
We personally do not fancy dressing our kids up like any other. We think even kids can have their fair dose of style and character through what they wear. We are so glad that we chanced upon Baby Style Icon that carries a mix of cult labels for kids age 0-6. Baby Style Icon is founded by Tjin Lee, Wendy Cheng (Xiaxue) and Belinda Huber. All three founders are mothers who are driven by the same passion in finding that stylish and cute must-haves to dress up their kids.
